According to a survey that was carried out by SellCell, the anticipated move of the iPhone 15 to USB-C this year may encourage a large number of Android users to switch phones.
In the United States, SellCell enlisted the help of over 1,000 iPhone and Android users to compile its data. According to the survey, 63% of current iPhone users indicated that the switch to a USB-C charging port by Apple would influence their decision to upgrade to an iPhone 15.
The majority of iPhone users, or 37 percent, stated that they would upgrade because they would be able to use a single charging cable for their iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Sixty-six percent of iPhone owners plan to upgrade to an iPhone 15.
The number of Android users whose interest had been piqued by Apple’s widely rumored switch to the charging standard was perhaps the survey’s most surprising finding: If Apple adds a USB-C port to the iPhone 15, 44% of people who already own Android devices said they would be tempted to buy one. 35% of those surveyed stated that they were motivated by the iPhone’s eventual compatibility with chargers for non-Apple devices.
Overall, 66% of the group of Android fans said they wouldn’t buy an iPhone 15, and 34% said they might upgrade to the iPhone 15.
For more than a decade, Apple has kept the Lightning port on the iPhone. The iPhone 5, released in September 2012, featured the company’s proprietary charging port. However, Apple’s Macs and iPads have all switched to the more common USB-C charging standard in recent years. Pressure from European regulations requiring all consumer mobile and laptop devices to use a universal charging standard facilitated Apple’s anticipated switch to USB-C for the iPhone this year.
At its “Wonderlust” event on September 12, Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone 15 lineup, along with the Apple Watch Series 9 and a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra.
