An improvement has been made to the Video Boost feature of the Google Pixel 8 Pro

The video boost feature of the Google Pixel 8 Pro was made available as part of the December Pixel Feature Drop, and it turns out there was more to it than first thought.

A report from Android Police claims that a minor tweak to the camera app’s user interface has made it simpler for users to activate Video Boost in specific circumstances.

Reportedly, the Pixel 8 Pro’s camera app suggested utilizing Video Boost with Night Sight when attempting to capture a video in a low-light setting. According to reports, this is not the same message that was sent when Night Sight was initially implemented. A larger prompt that occupied three-quarters of the screen and used a large toggle to activate the video boost was present in the original version.

The new prompt is more targeted in its activation and distinctly less invasive. It seems that the new prompt will only show up when attempting to take pictures in low light with the Google Pixel 8 Pro camera. It is crucial to remember that a prompt is necessary because Video Boost is not turned on by default, making it simple to overlook.

The Pixel 8 Pro’s Video Boost is an intriguing addition, but using it properly is subject to a number of limitations. Theoretically, videos with updated dynamic range, sharpness, color, and stabilization for uploaded videos should be enhanced with Video Boost. Nevertheless, in order for the feature to work, Google Photo Backup must be enabled.

It should be mentioned that, despite the Tensor G3 Chip’s purported power, Video Boost does not genuinely function locally on the Pixel 8 Pro. Rather, the function functions by sending the captured video to the Google Cloud servers, where each frame is processed through an HDR Image+ pipeline to enhance the quality of the video. It is also because of this transfer that the Video Boost feature is always on and needs to be turned on each time the camera app is launched.

Although it’s a small adjustment, users will find it easier to get the most out of their phones thanks to this one. Enhancing the toggle is a fantastic idea because it has been reported that the Video Boost feature significantly improves low-light videos.
