As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape our world, the provocative prediction made by Emad Mostaque, CEO of Stability AI, is as follows: In five years, there won’t be any programmers.” Indeed, the futuristic CEO seems to envision an AI-influenced near future.
In an interview with Peter H. Diamandis for the Moonshots and Mindsets Podcast, Mostaque discussed his vision for the AI industry and its current state. He also stated that that vision can only peer forward five years.
Mostaque came to the conclusion that human coders do not have a bright future, and there is evidence to support his conclusion.
Mostaque made the observation that data from GitHub reveals that “41% of all code right now is AI generated.” Intriguingly, the statement “in three months we overtook Bitcoin and Ethereum (in Github) and developed a popularity (there)” is evidence of AI’s growing popularity in comparison to cryptocurrency.
The company behind Stable Diffusion, the most widely used open-source image generator in the world, is Stability AI. However, the company’s goals include a wide range of projects in a variety of fields, including language models and audio-visual data processing as well as models for protein folding, DNA analysis, and chemical reactions.
According to Stability AI, the company intends to construct the components of a “society OS.”
Mostaque envisions revolutionary shifts in our communication and information access in the near future.
He claims, “I believe you’ll have ChatGPT on your mobile phone without internet (connection) by the end of the next year.” Our conversational interactions could undergo a radical transformation if AI models reside entirely on mobile phones.”
Concerns about AI’s potential global impact persist despite its rapid development. Personalized models are how Stability AI is tackling this problem head-on. They want to make it possible for every person, business, or culture to have an AI system that reflects their own stories and perspectives.
Mostaque explains that decentralizing AI is essential to their strategy. This ensures that AI technology serves the interests of individuals rather than hindering them, which is somewhat analogous to the crypto philosophy.
Mostaque emphasized his company’s belief in democratizing AI technology access and its commitment to transparency. In addition to Stable Diffusion, Mostaque’s group has open-sourced models for large languages that, according to him, have been downloaded more than 25 million times.
Inevitably, there will also be concerns regarding job security. Emad Mostaque presents a different picture on that front. Mostaque approaches the AI revolution with the same optimism as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who once stated that Ethereum was a “destroyer of jobs, creator of better ones” to quell fears of job loss. He sees AI as a tool for developing human potential rather than a threat that will destroy it.
Humans are people. You will change the world if you provide them with the most valuable information.”
