Sony Pictures Classics has officially announced a new U.S. release date for the romantic comedy Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, the feature directorial debut of French filmmaker Laura Piani.
The film is now set to open in select theaters on May 23, 2025, before expanding nationwide on May 30. It was previously scheduled for May 16 but was rescheduled to avoid a crowded box office weekend, which includes the releases of Hurry Up Tomorrow and Final Destination: Bloodlines.
Jane Austen Wrecked My Life premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to warm acclaim. It follows Agathe, an aspiring writer played by Camille Rutherford (Anatomy of a Fall), who works at the iconic Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris. Struggling with writer’s block and her romantic life, she receives a life-changing opportunity to attend a Jane Austen Writers’ Residency in England.
There, Agathe finds herself in a whirlwind of emotions and an unexpected love triangle, mirroring the romantic entanglements of Austen’s timeless heroines. The film explores themes of creativity, love, and self-discovery as Agathe must overcome her insecurities to find both literary and romantic fulfillment.
The supporting cast includes Paublo Pauly, Charlie Anson, and Annabelle Lengronne. The film is produced by Gabrielle Dumon and received backing from CANAL+ and CINÉ in France, where it was released earlier this year.
With its Austen-inspired charm and Parisian backdrop, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life promises a witty, heartfelt escape for romantic comedy lovers.
