Today denotes the 117th birthday celebration of Jeong Ji-yong, a writer, translator, and teacher whose work encountered a resurgence in the late 1980s and who is currently broadly thought about a pioneer of present day Korean poetry. The Doodle was made by Seoul-based guest artist, Mikyung Lee.
n 1902, on this day, conceived in Hage-ri town of Ocheon County in Chungchong province, Jeong Ji-Yong grew up during the Japanese control of Korea. He distributed his first poem in 1919 and afterward went to Japan to study English at Doishha University, writing his thesis on British artist and poet William Blake.
As a Korean living in an alternate nation, from this period, his verse communicated the sentiment of desire for the house. His most preferred poems are distributed in 1923, 향수, or “nostalgia”. It has been said in a song that it has become popular on Korean radio, exposing the memories of life in a rustic village, with the fear of ghosts, forget: “May it ever be so” forgot, even here That even in a dream?
Popular for its ground-breaking imagery and basic yet clear poem, Jeong Ji-Yong kept on showing verse and secondary school English in his Alma Mater – and later in the Eva Woman’s University – until his dark vanishing around 1950 occurred. Jeong Jiang literature literature award was established 1989 to recognize emerging writers and keep their heritage alive.
