Defending world champion Joey Chestnut broke his own reality record Sunday, eating up 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes during Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest.
It was the top-ranked hot dog eater in the world won the title over the most recent 15 years, throwing down 26 more than second place finisher Geoffrey Esper and one more than Chestnut oversaw last year.
On the women’s side, Michelle Lesco, ranked ninth overall, gotten her first title subsequent to devouring 30 3/4 franks and buns, 6 3/4 more than second place Sarah Rodriguez.
Miko Sudo, the shielding seven-time champion, didn’t compete this year as she’s expecting her first kid not long from now. Sudo set the ladies’ standard in 2020 when she ate 48.5 sausages and buns.
The yearly Fourth of July event took place in front of spectators in Coney Island.
Last year’s challenge was held in a private location for media simply due to the Covid pandemic.
As indicated by Nathan’s, legend have spread far and wide suggesting that the first contest of its sort was hung on July 4, 1916, as four migrants contended to show how enthusiastic they were by eating hot dogs at Nathan’s stand in Coney Island.
The contest has just been recorded since 1972.
