Anthony Davis was one of fourteen players chose by the NBA’s head coaches as reserves for the 2021 NBA All-Star Game.
Davis, who scored a record 52 points in the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, is an All-Star for the eighth back to back year.
The 70th NBA All-Star Game will be played Sunday, March 7 in Atlanta and broadcast by TNT as a feature of NBA All-Star 2021, which will happen on one evening. NBA All-Star incorporates the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest pregame with Slam Dunk taking place at halftime.
The NBA All-Star Game reserves chose from the Eastern Conference are Brooklyn Nets monitor James Harden, Boston Celtics watch Jaylen Brown and forward Jayson Tatum, Chicago Bulls watch Zach LaVine, New York Knicks forward Julius Randle, Philadelphia 76ers monitor Ben Simmons and Orlando Magic focus Nikola Vučević.
Joining Davis as reserves from the Western Conference are Phoenix Suns watch Chris Paul, LA Clippers forward Paul George, Utah Jazz focus Rudy Gobert and gatekeeper Donovan Mitchell, Portland Trail Blazers monitor Damian Lillard and New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson.
Brown, LaVine and Randle from the Eastern Conference and Williamson from the Western Conference contain the four first-time NBA All-Star choices among reserves.
In choosing the All-Star Game reserves, each NBA lead trainer decided in favor of seven parts in his meeting – two gatekeepers, three frontcourt players and two extra players at any position. The lead trainers were not allowed to decide in favor of players from their own group.
The All-Star Game rosters will be resolved through the NBA All-Star Draft, where group commanders Kevin Durant of the Nets and LeBron James of the Lakers will choose from the pool of players casted a ballot as starters and stores in every meeting. Dynamite will air the NBA All-Star Draft on Thursday, March 4 at 5 p.m. PT.
Durant and James will make their picks regardless of a player’s meeting connection or position. Each chief will draft 11 players to finish a 12-player program. The NBA All-Star Draft rules include:
- The eight players who, alongside the two commanders, are the starters will be drafted in the first round.
- The 14 players who are the stores will be drafted in the second round.
- As the top overall vote-getter among fans, James will have the principal pick in the first round (Starters). Durant will have the main pick in the second round (Reserves).
- The captains will alternate picks in each round until all major parts in that round have been chosen.
The 10 All-Star Game starters, revealed a week ago, were chosen by fans, current NBA players and a media board. The Eastern Conference starter pool is the Nets’ Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal and the 76ers’ Joel Embiid. The Western Conference starter pool is the Lakers’ James, the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Dončić, the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić and the Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will choose the swap for any player unfit to take part in the All-Star Game, naming a player from a similar gathering as the player who is being replaced.
Philadelphia lead trainer Doc Rivers and his staff have acquired the spot to mentor Team Durant. Utah lead trainer Quin Snyder and his staff have acquired the spot to mentor Team LeBron.
