An Electron version of Mac OS 8
Slack developer Felix Rieseberg has changed Mac OS 8 into an application you can introduce on your Mac or PC. Subsequent to changing Windows 95 into an application in 2018, Rieseberg chose to turn a whole 1991 Macintosh Quadra with Mac OS 8.1 into a solitary Electron application. It even incorporates various applications and games, on account of an old MacWorld demo CD from 1997. The application can be introduced on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
The macintosh.js application is composed completely in JavaScript, and it utilizes a virtual machine to copy a Macintosh Quadra 900 with the Motorola CPU Apple utilized before its progress to IBM’s PowerPC chips. Rieseberg has figured out how to get great games like Duke Nukem 3D, Civilization II, Dungeons and Dragons, Namely, Oregon Trail, Alley 19 Bowling, and Damage Incorporated running. There’s even a lot of applications and preliminaries preinstalled, including Photoshop 3, Premiere 4, Illustrator 5.5, StuffIt Expander, and Apple’s Web Page Construction Kit.
While Internet Explorer and Netscape are preinstalled, the forms are old to such an extent that Rieseberg says “you wouldn’t be able to open even Google.” Either way, it’s great that a ’90s variant of Mac OS has been ported to run in JavaScript.
In case you’re keen on attempting the application out, the entirety of the independent adaptations are under 250MB and can be downloaded from GitHub. Appreciate, by and by, an outing through a world of fond memories.
