In the first update to the device in almost thirty years, Microsoft (MSFT.O) announced that it is adding a button to its Windows keyboard that will launch the tech giant’s Copilot service.
The corporation, which is investing billions in AI, is making an effort to integrate the technology into its products, and the “Copilot key” that was unveiled on Thursday is the latest example.
The company’s goals for AI-enabled PCs are highlighted by the addition of the key. The company is situated in Redmond, Washington.
These devices are driven by sophisticated CPUs that can run apps and large-language models directly on the device, bypassing the cloud.
According to analysts, the release of AI-capable PCs could aid in the recovery of the personal computer industry from its post-pandemic downturn. Research firm Canalys projects that the use of AI-capable PCs will accelerate starting in 2025.
According to Microsoft, the button will be present on a few new Windows 11 PCs leading up to and during the CES technology trade exhibition, which is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas later this month.
The key will be accessible on future Surface devices as well as at some point after February of this year.
Copilot, which was unveiled in November, is a multipurpose tool that works with Microsoft’s web and productivity tools. It can summarize text and conduct virtual meetings, among other things.
