Sticky Rice is the vision of a mother-son duo; the brand today thrives on Thai specialties in the UAE.
Several industries in the past few years have gained massive momentum thanks to the consistent growth and success several brands and companies have shown, taking those sectors to heightened growth levels. These businesses have stood apart from the rest in their industries because they have remained consistent in their quest to reach the highest of the highs, come what may. It is this consistency in efforts and hard work that has helped these businesses achieve remarkable success, says Mo Abedin, who, along with his late mother and chief chef Amena Rakkuson, also known as Mama, started their brand called Sticky Rice in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village Circle. Mo Abedin with his small family team consisting of wife Nina Fahmi and sister Maryam Abedin has gone a step further and expanded the brand in Abu Dhabi as a one-of-a-kind Thai restaurant outlet in Yas Mall.
Sticky Rice very well exudes the passion and perseverance of the mother-son duo who, throughout their lives, remained food lovers and went ahead in creating their own unique niche in the industry by turning their passion into work and building their business. This is how Sticky Rice came into existence, and in April 2023, was launched on the first floor of Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi, after gaining massive recognition in Dubai.
It was a passion project for Mama, who lost her life in 2021 due to Covid-19. She was a self-taught cook who brought her magic of Thai food specialties to Dubai and served neighborhoods with delicious Thai meals. After his mother’s passing, Mo Abedin wanted to keep her legacy going on for years through his restaurants, and what better way than to bring her passion project to life? Sticky Rice is all about this and much more, where fresh Thai ingredients are specially flown into the country. It has been tapping into human emotions through great Thai specialties and has been serving them some delectable dishes found nowhere else. In the span of five years, the list of clients has only seen a surge. Five among them have dined at Sticky Rice over 100 times, which is dubbed as “#Club100.”
Sticky Rice has signature dishes like Green Curry, Sticky Tamarind Wings, Seafood Tom Yum and Mango and Sticky Rice with Coconut Soft Serve Ice Cream dishes. All this is made directly from the chefs’ love for good food and their passion for serving diners the best culinary experiences in the UAE.
Mo Abedin says that after the success of Sticky Rice (@stickyriceae) in Dubai, seeing a great footfall of food lovers in Abu Dhabi has been a huge motivation for him to do even better in the coming years.
