The built-in document scanner in Google Drive receives new paint

One of favorite cloud storage options is Google Drive, which is useful for a number of significant reasons. Access it without restriction on any operating system, and the web application doesn’t lack any features. Additionally, all documents created with Workspace tools, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides, are automatically synchronized with Drive. With Google Drive for Android, you can also take pictures and upload them as documents. Thrilled with the recent update that gave the document scanner interface a new look.

To ensure that its apps follow the most recent Material Design guidelines and have a cohesive look, Google updates their user interfaces on a regular basis. Drive receives regular updates, with the most recent ones aimed at improving the web user interface for those who enjoy folder organization. Instead of the thumbnail view, which didn’t really help documents, you might notice that the Drive app for Android now displays saved files alongside their file sizes in a dense list view on larger tablets. Not to be overlooked, Material Design 3 guidelines are also applied.

But Google hasn’t made any updates to the document scanner’s user interface in a while. Given that the Pixel Camera app recently underwent some UI changes that presented a persistent toggle to switch between photo and video modes, an update seems appropriate. With the release of version 2.23.457.1, the Drive app’s document scanner user interface is now undergoing similar modifications (via 9to5Google).

Numerous changes will be visible once you use the floating action button (FAB) located just above the + New FAB to open the document scanner user interface. These include the addition of Google Drive branding at the top of the screen and a new Auto Capture mode that is enabled by default at the bottom. When the page’s borders are sharp and fit inside the frame, the latter snaps a picture automatically. If you would rather use the shutter button for scanning, you can also go back to the previous Manual mode.

Following the initial photo, a new Preview window will appear with options for Crop & Rotate, Filter, Retake, and Delete in the bottom bar. You can view the next page by tapping the + button in the thumbnail just above that. Click the Done button in the upper right corner of the preview screen once you have successfully scanned every page of the document.
