Want to learn the English language? TikTok is the way to go!

If you travel across India, chances are you will find a ‘Speak English’ centre where you have to pay a lot of money to understand the basics of the language. Fortunately, this is no longer the case. You can now learn English on TikTok. The short-video platform has several of its users sharing English lessons to followers so that they are able to communicate better. These videos have gained immense popularity, and have been an integral part of TikTok’s #EduTok and #SkillIndia campaigns.

Some of the users have taught the basics of the language, while other TikTok users explain everyday objects. There are even a group of TikTok users who share videos on how to speak in a situation, which – in the long run – is useful information for you to grow and develop as an individual.

Keeping that in mind, here are some of the most popular English language creators on TikTok:

English with Geet: Why pay to institutes when you can learn from Geet can help you out? @englishwithgeet is a popular TikTok channel that teaches you the basics of the language. Geet first explains the words in Hindi, and then the English meaning of the same. She also explains common mistakes such as the difference between ‘Take Off’ and ‘Take On’. You can watch her videos here.

Test Book: TikTok user TestBook also gives you English lessons where they learn Hindi and English meanings of various things that are seen every day. One video shared by the TikTok user explains the English meaning of various cloves and spices. Watch that video here. The videos are also interactive, with people requesting the users to share English meanings of several other daily food items. What’s interesting, however, is that TikTok users are also using these videos to understand the Hindi meaning of some of the more commonly used English terms.

Jessica Kaur: TikTok user Jessica Kaur much like her other counterparts shares popular videos that showcase how English can be used every day. One of her more popular videos is where she gives us the English meaning for popular Indian snacks like samosas and pakoras. Did you know that pakoras are called fritters, and samosas are called rissoles?

Edwina Gomes: TikTok user Edwina Gomes has an interesting TikTok English video. She shares with us on the different ways to say no without sounding rude. This lesson is important to those who speak fluent English as well, as it highlights how being polite can make so much of a difference even if we reply in the negative.
